FEATURED GOSPEL
JESUS in the GARDEN
Luke 22:39-45
Digging Deeper
The scene in the Garden of Gethsemane reveals to us that Jesus was just as human as we are. He was nervous and scared and did not want to go through with what God had planned for him. But because that was what God had in mind for him, Jesus did what his Father asked. Sometimes it is hard for us to do what God asks us to do. But God gives us strength and power and faith from him to move forward in the tasks God sets before us. We should not be like the disciples who fell asleep. We should be awake and ready to follow God’s will.
I Pray
O Son of God, give me vision to see your plan for me and follow through. Amen.
Then he went off from them about the distance of a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed. Luke 22:41
Thy Will Be Done
After Jesus and his disciples ate the Eurcharist meal, they left the Upper Room and went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus went off away from the disciples to pray more privately to
the heavenly Father. He prayed that this cup of suffering he was about to experience on the cross would be taken away. But he obediently said, “Not my will, but yours be done.” He prayed so hard that his sweat became like great drops of blood. When he
was done praying, he came back to find his disciples sleeping.
