A Prayer for a Loved One Who Is Very Ill
“Though I am afflicted and poor, My Lord keeps me in mind.
You are my help and deliverer; My God, do not delay!”
(Psalm 40:18)
O God, _______________ is facing a hard challenge. Be with (him or her) and strengthen (him or her) to know that (she or he) does not face this challenge alone. If it is your will, heal (him or her) of all illness and pain. To you be glory forever and ever. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
A Prayer for a Loved One Who Has Lost a Job
“Why are you downcast, my soul, why do you groan within me?
Wait for God, for I shall again praise him, my savior and my God.”
(Psalm 42:12)
Lord Jesus, _______________ has lost a job. Be with (him or her). Remind all of us that we are not only “human doings” but also human beings. Show _______________ the next right step to take in finding work, so that (his or her) gifts and talents will once more build up your Kingdom on earth. We ask in your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
A Prayer after Receiving Bad News
“I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God]. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away.’” (Revelation 21:3–4)
O God, we have just heard that __________________. We are sad and upset. Be with us and show us how to support one another in this time of sorrow. We ask in the name of Jesus, your Son, who bore the Cross and rose again for us. Amen.
