PART 4
A Prayer on First Communion Day
“Then the two [disciples] recounted what had taken place on the way and how he [Jesus] was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.”
(Luke 24:35)
Dear Jesus, thank you for coming to me for the very first time in the Eucharist. Help me remember that the Bread is really your Body and that the Cup holds your Blood, under the appearances of ordinary bread and wine. As you become part of me, may I become more like you. In your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
A Prayer to Celebrate a Birthday
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.”
(Jeremiah 1:5)
Thank you, God, for creating me. You know it is my birthday! Thank you for making me unique in all the world. Thank you for giving me gifts and talents that I may not even know about yet. Thank you for my parents, relatives, and friends who help me grow. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Prayers for Sad Times
“Lord, hear my prayer;
let my cry come to you.
Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress.
Turn your ear to me;
when I call, answer me quickly.”
(Psalm 102:1–3)
A Prayer When a Loved One Dies
“They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction.
But they are in peace.”
(Wisdom 3:2–3)
Dear God, we feel empty and alone because _____________ has died. We believe that (he or she) is living with you. Take (him or her) to yourself, and give us the peace of knowing that (he or she) is still with us in a new way. May we all love one another in you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
