P. 7

March 4, 2018 • Third Sunday of Lent
Leader: Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.
Children: Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.
Leader: Psalm 19:7, 8, 9cd–10ab.
Gospel Acclamation
Invite the children to stand. Sing the suggested Acclamation or another familiar one. If you choose not to sing the Acclamation, proceed to the Proclamation of the Gospel.
Proclaim the Gospel
In the First Reading, we were told to worship God alone—not money, not movie stars, not anything or anyone else except God. In today’s Gospel, we will see how Jesus reacted one day when he saw some people showing disrespect for God.
Leader: The Lord be with you. Children: And with your spirit.
Leader: A reading from the Gospel of John. Children: † Glory to you, O Lord.
Leader: Read John 2:13–22. Then say, “The Gospel of the Lord.”
Children: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Homily
Have a talk with the children based on one idea
and one question:
Ô In the Gospel, Jesus reminded people that God’s house should be treated with respect.
Ô How do we act with respect in God’s house today?
Let the children help you make a list of dos and don’ts.
Profession of Faith
Leader: Please stand for our Profession of Faith and respond, “I do believe.” Children of God, do you believe that God our Creator is all-good and deserving of all love?
Children: I do believe.
Leader: Do you believe that Jesus, our Lord, saves us from sin and shows us the way to holiness? Children: I do believe.
Leader: Do you believe that the Holy Spirit helps us grow in love and holiness?
Children: I do believe.
Prayer of the Faithful
Leader: To show our love for God, our faith in God, and our trust in God’s help, let us pray for all those who most need our prayers. To each petition, please respond, “Hear us, O Lord.” For all Church leaders, that they — like Jesus — will burn with love for God’s house, let us pray to the Lord.
Children: Hear us, O Lord.
Leader: For all of us in this parish, that we — like the first disciples — will believe and live the words of Jesus, let us pray to the Lord.
Children: Hear us, O Lord.
Leader: For all people who live in places where they cannot worship God in freedom, that one day they will be free, let us pray to the Lord.
Children: Hear us, O Lord.
Invite the children to pray their own petitions. Then pray:
Let us pray. Almighty and ever-loving God, everything you touch is holy. Everywhere you live is holy. May we always treat with respect the churches and the tabernacles where you have chosen to dwell among us, through Christ our Lord.
Children: Amen.
Return to Assembly
The Liturgy of the Word ends with the Prayer of the Faithful. Prepare the children to return to the assembly in a respectful manner. Remind them to take a leaflet home and share it with their families. Encourage them to complete the Family Corner activities as a family.
