Matrimony IS A LIFE-LONG COVENANT between a baptized man and a baptized woman reflecting the love between Christ and the Church. This indissoluble union is ordered to the good of the spouses and for the procreation and formation of children. By their love and mutual
fidelity, and sacramental graces, the spouses help lead each other to holiness and toward heaven.

   Common Catholic Prayers
 OUR FATHER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as
we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
HAIL MARY
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
KEY WORDS AND ACTIONS:
GLORY BE
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
HAIL, HOLY QUEEN
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourn- ing and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit
of thy womb, Jesus. O clement,
O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.
THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suf- fered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of
God, the Father almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Cath- olic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
THE GRACES GIVEN: * Help for perfecting the couple’s love and strengthening their indissoluble unity. * Help to attain holiness in married life and in welcoming and educating children. * Strength to take up their crosses and follow Christ — to rise again after they have fallen, to forgive one another, and to bear one another’s burdens. * Equip the couple to “be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Eph 5:21; cf. Gal 6:2) and to love one another with supernatural, tender, and fruitful love.
MINISTERS OF THE SACRAMENT: The couple
Free consent
Exchange of vows and rings
After receiving the couple’s consent, the priest or deacon invites them to publicly declare it: “Since it is your inten- tion to enter into marriage, join your right hands and declare your consent before God and
   his Church.” Formulas may vary,
but vows are spoken aloud such as
this: “I [Name], take you, [Name], to
be my [wife/husband]. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.” Consent is also symbolized by the couple’s exchange of rings: “Take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

“From the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” — MARK 10:6-9 Also: Gen 1:28, 2:18, 24; Mt 19:5-6; Eph 5:21-32
