Today’s Reading
Go to www.usccb.org/bible/readings for the text or an audio recording of the Scripture readings for the Memorial of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
Faith-Sharing Activity
Saint Thérèse called herself a “little flower”—not anything great, but still precious to the Lord. In her honor, make a bouquet of tissue paper flowers. Instructions can be easily found through an Internet search. You will need colorful tissue paper, pipe cleaners or flexible wire, scissors, and a vase.
Take your bouquet to a neighbor who might need a bit of cheer, or perhaps to someone in the hospital.
Conversation Starter
How can we show love for God in little ways? Does doing little things for someone else without expecting anything in return mean that we are allowing others to take us for granted? How can we show we appreciate one another and each one’s gifts?
Today’s Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving Saint Thérèse such strength in doing little things with great love. Give us those same gifts of strength and love, so that we can ap- preciate all the little gifts you give to us each day. We ask in your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
Memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi (October 4)
Introduction
Saint Francis heard God asking him to “Rebuild my church.” At first Francis obeyed by restoring the ruined church of the Portiuncula, but later he realized that it would be by the preaching and teaching of his new Franciscan order that the Church would be rebuilt. Pope Francis, in taking the name of this great saint, has made “rebuilding the Church” a priority in our own times, through authentic Gospel living and care for those who are poor.
