QuiCk fACTs abouT CaTholiC symbols
here are a few symbols of our catholic faith.
Colors
A liturgical seasons are symbolized by color: purple for advent and lent, white for easter and christmas, and green for ordinary Time.
A sacraments are symbolized by color: white for baptism, marriage, and funerals.
Light
A we use candles for easter, baptism, and liturgies. candles also remind us that christ is the light of the world.
Water
A in baptism, water is used as a symbol of purity and cleansing.
A during Mass a small amount of water is added to the wine.
A at certain Masses, the priest sprinkles water on the congregation to remind us of the promises made on our behalf at baptism.
Crucifix
A e cross with Jesus’ cruci ed body is a symbol of sacri ce and reminds us that without his death there would be no resurrection.

Dear God, as we begin this new school year, help us to open our hearts
and minds to Jesus. May we learn more about our Catholic faith and follow Jesus in all we say and do.
