Catechist background
another way to pray using art is to create your own art. a person doesn’t have to be “good at art” in order to have this experience. Many artists see themselves as collaborating with creation. some artists work in silence as they prepare their ma- terial. ey tune in to how they feel. ey listen to the silence to hear how they are going to begin their art. sometimes in the middle of the process, the artist stops and asks for God’s help as he or she considers how to continue the work. Most artists do not understand where their work comes from, but are aware that they participated in a silent, sa- cred process that brought out a new image.

Scribble drawing and story activity
1 Take a large sheet of paper and choose your fa- vorite colored marker.
2 Put the marker in the hand you do not write with. close your eyes and pretend your hand is dancing across the paper making lines, circles, loops, etc. don’t be afraid if you go o the paper. Just put your hand back on and continue. when you feel you have nished, lay your marker down and open your eyes.
3 Get di erent colored markers. look at your pa- per; can you see di erent objects in your drawing? For example, you might see a hat—outline the hat and decorate it; you also might see a duck—do the same thing: outline it and decorate it. rotate your paper in all directions and look for other objects; outline and decorate.
4 write a story that uses all of the objects you found.
5 share your picture and story with a friend.
